DIVINE AIGNER’s Show Collection Spring/Summer 2020

If I had to name the new AIGNER Spring/Summer Collection SS2020, it would bear my name. I have truly never seen a look I could sign off on so completely as the one I saw last Friday in Milan. But sadly, this wonderful collection already has a name – DIVINE. It stands for classic beauty and modern elegance coupled with restrained opulence. In short, for today’s modern, confident woman who likes delicate, sensual and feminine styles without sacrificing her pride. Oh, I love it!

So let us talk about the brand’s new femininity. It is a harmonious symphony of muted shades which will never go out of style and in whose forms Creative Director Christian Alexander Beck has once again devoted himself to reinterpreting the AIGNER DNA.

Elegant fabrics are fusing with the modernness of leather, creating a very special effect. What I saw were crepe, chiffon and lurex dresses in natural as well as metallic shades, together with pleated details and gold sequins, flowing around the bodies of the models. Voluminous puff sleeves and apron-like dresses in leather and fabric. Bustiers, corset-belts and sensual tops with fabric-covered buttons were worn on top of each other in a layering look. My highlight, canvas bags. But more on that subject later!

First, I want to tell you about the new and well-known bags in the collection. Of course, the CYBILL makes an appearance again. AIGNER’s signature bag is and remains an essential element of the collection. The SPECIAL VERSION CYBILL comes with a luxurious padded and embossed A-logo and will undoubtedly become the season’s absolute must-have under the name “Cybill Logo”.

But the “SIENA” with its timeless and puristic form also has everything it takes to be a new icon bag. The striking and innovative dual-screw clasp and the triangle shape of the handle or crossbody bag, which was inspired by AIGNER’s archives from the sixties, set the standard for the series’ design.

Now I want to talk to you about the VICENZA. The tortoise shell elements of this new stylish and sophisticated series made in finely grained leather catch the eye immediately. The material enhances the elegant look of the individual chain handle links, the handles’ bars as well as the decorative clasp with its gold-colored frame. A very popular material in the seventies, it gives the bag a retro charm disrupted by the clean shape of the bag models. During the show, the VICENZA’s XL versions in “Antique White” and “Feather Grey” were also presented.

Special models were added to some key pieces of the collection for the fashion show. Like the MINA, a small hand or crossbody bag made of vacchetta leather in “Antique White” with studs or in a classic look in “Feather Grey”. Or the TARA, a classic hobo bag in three versions: A-logo fabric with details in vacchetta, canvas with vacchetta details and a tortoise shell handle or, lastly, in a gold patinated version with a tortoise shell handle.

The shopper bag EVITA was also upgraded, since XL versions were manufactured for the show: in vacchetta or canvas with a tortoise shell handle, with A-logo fabric including vacchetta details or in croco-embossed leather in “Dusk Blue” with vacchetta details. The new colors are a revelation for the beginning of a new season. Lightness and elegance are on the agenda here. Alongside gold and silver, there are subtle nude shades and bold nuances. “Vacchetta Brown”, a warm brown evoking the exclusive equestrian heritage of the brand, and “Dusty Rose”, an unobtrusive shade of rose as a perfect expression of feminine grace.

They make up an essential part of the color palette. In addition, two shades of blue, “Dawn Blue” and “Dusk Blue” remind us of the trendy jeans of the nineties. Other colors include the neutral shades “Antique White” as well as “Feather Grey”.
Which one will become your favorite color?

Bags made of natural canvas were only designed to be presented during the show until now. However, I will do everything in my power to make them available for purchase. After all, they were the collection’s absolute highlight in my eyes. Who is with me? Besides that, the focus in Spring/Summer 2020 is on grain leather and refined metallic finishes as well as on the extraordinary vacchetta leather, which only develops its unique character over time. By the way, I wore the gold Savona Bag from the current Enlightenment Fall/Winter Collection 2019 to the show. You can find it HERE.

Soon, you will be able to customize your personalized straps the way you always wanted in the online-shop. Also a great idea for Christmas, by the way. I will be happy to let you know when this option is available. But for now, let the pictures speak for themselves, enjoy the collection and let us look forward to the new season together!

Yours, Kate
